The Sine Gugma, in partnership with the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Social Communication and the Commission on Youth, held the IEC Short Film Festival Screening and Awarding Ceremony last May 16, 2015 at the Seminaryo Mayor Audio Visual Room, Pope John Paul II Avenue, Cebu City, Philippines.
Sine Gugma is a Cebuano film advocacy which was started by the Cebu City Youth Commission.
“This year, we tapped the youth in the Archdiocese of Cebu particularly the Social Communications ministry and the Commission of Youth to come up with 13 films,” said Marlon Douglas Hofer, project director for the IEC Short Film Festival.
The screenplays of the different film groups from the Commission on Youth were reviewed by Msgr. Agustin Ancajas, IEC 2016 Cultural Events Chair. Each of the films focused on the 51st International Eucharistic Congress theme: “Christ in You, Our Hope of Glory”.
Msgr. Dennis Villarojo, 51st IEC secretary-general, also welcomed the participants and committees behind the IEC Short Film Festival.
“The International Eucharistic Congress is not just a religious event; it is a cultural and civic event as well because from the center of the Eucharist, all that is good, all that is beautiful radiates into the human community,” said Villarojo.
The IEC Short Film Festival Awards were given to “Binhi” for Best in Film, “Kagahapon” for Best in Cinematography, Mr. Van Isaac (from the film “Binhi”) for Best Actor, and Jessalyn Kaputol (from the film “Bucket List”) as Best Actress.
