Reflecting on the 51st IEC

reflecting on the 51st IECWhat is there to gain when we decide to let Christ be the center of our life?

I tell you, great things! I’m not just talking about blessings, but it is the freedom we get when we let go and let God come into all aspects of our lives, be it our personal relationships, career, school, or business.

“For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” (John 3:16, New Jerusalem Bible) What freedom is there when we put to heart His gift of salvation which is Christ who sacrificed his life for us through his death on the cross?

Freedom, as I have been taught, is doing the things you ought to do and not what you want to do. It is a life of comfort, not because we have the lifestyle and luxury, but because we have Christ to guide us through every difficulty and trial. He carries our burdens (Matt. 11:30, NJB), “Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.”

When Christ is in us, we lack nothing because He is there for us until the end. Our looks, money, fame, family, friends and power may depart from us, but Christ remains in us, His love endures forever.

When we have Christ in us, we have hope, and he invites us to share this hope with others. Just as Christ had shared the Father’s love to the people of Israel, so should we share Christ with all. Through the 51st International Eucharistic Congress in Cebu, may we share this hope that we have in Christ to others who need it the most.
